The passenger door lock is "lazy" when I depress the switch. Sometimes it locks and more often it does not. I took the door apart and watched it actuate. Seems like there is a lot of rub in the linkage against the metalframe and the plastic once the door panel is replaces. Also, it seems like the door lock selonoid works when it wants to. It will kind of "jerk" but not accuate and lock and sometimes it will lock smoothly. Any suggestions?
I had the same problem with the passenger lock. It would throw it open but could not lock it. When i replaced the outer window seal and had the panel off i oiled the pivots and the locking mechanism. I also greased the power window support rod and ribbon. My passenger door locks now and my power windows are not as lazy too. Worth a try.
My passenger lock does the same thing when I activate my alarm system, some times it locks and sometimes it sounds like its locked but didn't. My wife is killing me for spending money on little things(for the vette) so I'll have to live with it for a while. :nopity
I had that same problem too on the drivers side of my 1990. By chance the alternator died and when it was replaced...poof, the lock started working again. Hopfully you dont have a bad alternator but its a thought.
Thanks for all the responses. It's just one of those things that drives you nuts and often embarrassing. The wife never gives me a chance to unlock the doors with the key and just grabs the handle and yanks it open. Then the alarm goes off and you standing their like you never had a security system before? I want to install a keyless I bought sometime ago but think I need to cure this problem first. I will try lubrication and all that good stuff... but I think the alternator is coincidental. Thanks
