Well I am going to answer from info. I have received from other members. The non-platnum plug is a TR-55 part no. 3951. The platnum plug is a TR55VX part no. 2885. I am trying to locate a set myself and the auto zone store and pep boys both tell me they dont stock them. Good luck!!
TR55ix iridium plug: NGK part number is 7164. I believe recommended replacement interval is 50,000 miles on the iridiums.
Another performance plug to look at is the AC Delco Rapidfire. $3.99 each at Autozone. LT1 can use either Rapidfire #14 or Rapidfire #12. #14 matches the OEM factory plug's heat range, #12 is a little colder.
Or you could just use the lower cost TR55's or TR6's. I tried the standard TR55 and my idle was a a little bit rougher with them, and felt like slight loss of low end torque. I have NGK iridiums installed currently.
Lone Ranger,
How do you like the NGK Iridium’s compared to others?
I'm running the TR55's & I've got em' out now while I work on the headers/exhaust. I'm thinking about using the Iridium plugs when I put the car back together...any noticeable difference?
Yes, I have noticed a little bit smoother idle and better throttle response in the low end. Note on the iridium plugs-- you aren't supposed to gap them. The set I bought checked out at 0.050 according to my gapper (I did check them, just didn't move them). Best price place to buy is O'Reilly Auto Parts store if you have any nearby, $5.84 per plug.
I also like the info I read on AC Rapidfire plugs. If I get bored I may try them out, too
