The previous owner of my 85 Z51 installed Cherry Bomb high flow mufflers, but never really seemed to figure out the exhaust tip situation. The mufflers seem to be mounted in the factory location, but with 2 5/8" OD outlets it doesn't seem like there's many options for exhaust tips, let alone factory shaped ones. You can see where he tried to tag the original exhaust tips onto one side with a marginal amount of success, but on the other side he installed a metal plate to deflect the exhaust away from the bumper, which sort of works.
Basically I'd like to either get exhaust tips that are the factory shape, or at least have ones made. The other option would be turndowns but there's not a lot of room back there (6" between the bumper and the outlet flange) and most exhaust tips are 2.5" OD, slightly too small.
Anyone got any ideas on this one? Idk if asking an exhaust shop to replicate the factory tips would be a tall order, or if there's ones for sale somewhere that I just haven't seen.
Loosen the clamps on the Y-pipe push the Y up and rotate the tips down, this will increase your ground clearance (factory correct) once you have your outlets more clear of rear bumper to can mimic the other side or make your own creation.
Update on this situation: took it to a muffler shop to get exhaust tips fabbed up for it and ran into some more snags. Apparently the previous owner welded on the passenger side muffler crooked as well as aimed a bit too high for bumper clearance, so they were looking at having to cut and reweld the muffler to get everything into position, all the while the price is ballooning with each added thing they have to fabricate.
Meanwhile Summit (which is 45 minutes from me) has these Walker SoundFX mufflers for under $200 for a pair and it would remove all the previous owners mistakes.
Does anyone have any experience with these? I've seen where people seemed to like them with the rest of their exhaust system left stock, however what do they sound like with a cat delete?
I do like the sound of the Cherry Bombs I currently have, but if it's gonna be 3x the price and I still have a drone at highway speeds I don't know if they're worth saving.

I dunno what they sound like with a cat delete, but I have those mufflers on my 90 stock exhaust.
They sound alright for what they are. I'll attach a short recording to give an idea what they sound like.
Do note, though that I had a plug wire crossed and didn't realize it, so try to weed out that distraction. Also the video makes it sound tinny whereas it's not. It's more rumbly. You can hear it coming from around the block just cruising at idle speed.
Highway speeds I can't say that drone has been an issue at all. I've ran it the last few years without a spare tire carrier though. I 've only recently reinstalled the carrier ans spare, so will have to listen for it. It's parked for the winter now.

Oh that does sound pretty nice! I guess if they wind up being too loud without a cat I can always install a resonator and it'll still probably be cheaper than trying to scab the POs work back together lol. Thanks!
I have the Walker '85 style on my '84. NIce mellow sound and no drone with the cat installed. The PO gave me a cat delete pipe that he had tried but he said the sound was a bit "snappy" for lack of a better term. I just had to order a new 18417 for the left side because somehow I managed to rip the hanger mount off of the muffler body. I think the part number for the right side is 18418.

Stainless steel CAT delete pipe. See what I mean?
oh yowch thats crazy! interesting about the snap. I've read elsewhere that that L-83 has a slightly different exhaust note than the L-98. I guess we'll see because its looking more and more like i'll be getting these mufflers shortly

I have been looking for a cat delete pipe for my 81 project now if they exist for C4 I wonder if there's one for C3
PO for my car just welded in a 3" pipe in place of the cat on mine. I'm sure any muffler shop could do the same.
I can get a performance modern Cat to replace the 40 years old pancake brick (4 bolt flange each end) for under 200, and hard Performance and HP isn't my concern just need the extra heat or chance of clogging to not be a power anymore

Been there. You could also do a resonator in place of a cat perhaps
