Default Distributer Mystery wire

Hello,

I am trying to convert to an aftermarket ECM. Everything has been going alright so far but there is this extra wire on the distributer I'm not sure what it does. It's pin B3 (black wire) on connector C2 ECM connector or as seen on distributer, label D. It's on the bottom of the picture below. It looks to be lo pulse reference with 1.01 volts being fed from the ECM, across a resistor which will drop the voltage, to the distributer housing. Can I run the distributer without this wire or do I need 1.01 volts applied to it? Everything else in this schematic makes sense to me except that.

This is my first post too.

You don't mention year and that should/could be important but on some C4 B3/C2 is BLK/RED even like your diagram states. It isn't all blk like your snapshot seems to indicate the actual wire is.

Sorry about that. It's a 1989 coupe manual. I believe this system is the same from years 87 to 89. I wasn't clear but I said the wire was black in the schematic to help people find it in the picture. The schematic says it is blk/red but you are right, not always true. Any thoughts about what purpose it serves? Can it be grounded? Thanks for the response wvzr

It’s a ground wire.
