I ordered one from Amazon for my 93, YHB brand, $20 or so. Has anyone had any positive / negative results from adding a throttle body air foil?
Yes, it can cause a blockage in the PCV system and this results in other issues.
Callaway tested them on their Supernatural LT1s back in the day and found a 1 horsepower difference, which is essentially nothing, and that was on a heavily modified 383 engine.
I had a TPIS one on my 87 4+3. They do some, but it is not enough to feel it. On mine I put a better exhaust and the air foil. When I did that, I noticed that I had a slight stumble when I first pressed hard on the gas. I removed the air foil and the stumble was gone. Later I put a tuning chip in the car and then added the air foil again. There was no stumble. In short, the air foil took it outside of the calibration limits on the stock chip. The new chip allowed it to work.
I later put the air foil on my 94 6 speed. I did not notice any change, except that when I removed it, there was a slight decrease in performance. I suspect most people would not notice the change, but I was daily driving that car (about 45k in 2.5 years) and was very aware of how it performed.
The one thing that is important is that you must use loctite on the threads when installing it. If the screw comes out, it will go into the intake and then a cylinder where it will total your engine.
In summary, it adds very little performance and is not worth the cost. It also adds a risk to damage the engine.
