Hi everyone. A month ago I purchased a1990 base convertible, dark red Corvette with 102,000 miles off of Bring a Trailer. $6,600. Has a new top, body is in great shape and paint is also very good. Only a few problems that I have to contend with. Brakes were shot and I believe the original shocks were still on it. Those have been replaced and made a huge difference, is great to be able to stop. Tires are 19 years old so tires and new rims are ordered and will be installed shortly. The only thing on the inside that doesn't work is the tach, it reads way high most of the time. I have to get that figured out. If any of you have any ideas on a solution for that I'd love to hear it. All fluids will be changed in the next month. I'll take good care of it but it will be driven, not sitting around! That's what ruins these cars. I can't wait until summer and have the top down!!
Welcome to the forum! Your tach problem is fairly common. You probably have a bad resistor. Visit Batee.com for repair info. They have tutorials to diagnose and repair most C4 electronic gremlins. They sell parts for DIYers and have an inhouse repair service as well. Tach repair is on the list of projects for my 91.
A '90 'vert - that's a very good choice. Tach issue is to be expected. You mentioned tires and wheels. You're replacing the OE or it didn't have OE when purchased?
It has auto climate control, an after market radio, cruise, sport seats and 102,000 miles. It runs great. I just had all new brakes and rotors installed plus new tires and new wheels. One of the original wheels had a dent from hitting a curb I guess. Future remedies will be transmission and power steering fluid changes. I have to replace the seals on the convertible top. I have an after market radio getting installed on Tuesday with car play and all the bells and whistles. This car is amazing and I can't wait to get the top down! And, I thank everyone on here with there tips and knowledge. I'm going to drive this car, not park it, because I want to fully enjoy experience. The new wheels and tires.

It had the OE. I know many like to keep their vets stock but I don't like those wheels and tend to like chrome. They look great with the dark red.
