I installed my Dewitts Direct Fit Radiator, what a beauty it is and a true pleasure to install. Attached are 2 pictures of the debris removed from the AC condenser. Vacuuming did remove hardly any at all. As it's winter, i did not consider water pressure. Using 100 psi air, i spent at least 45 minutes going side to side and up and down, front and back, blowing out debris from microscopic dust to larger visible pieces. Prior to cleaning the condenser, there was more than 1/3 of the area that an LED flashlight would not shine through. The factory coolant radiator is closer to 1/2 plugged with debris the flashlight cannot shine through, for ***** and grins, i'm going to put air to it and see how well it clears. Anyone who believes either of these radiators can be thoroughly cleaned without pulling the coolant radiator is fooling themselves.
Make sure using distilled water + anti-freeze coolants and never use tap water in anything you care about
Cleaning condenser is good fun but I'm cautious telling people to diy since its so easy to bend and damage the fins/tubes on some cars, need to warn them be careful, Im sure you know careful with that air , one tiny pinhole and its over what a mess
That is exactly how I cleaned my condenser when I installed my Dewitts. Like you, I also had to sweep up the little rocks I blew out. Notice how they all seemed to be the same size? I just kept the air on and the little rocks just kept coming. It took quite a while. Dan
When I did that job I found a tool with various size combs that cleaned and straightened the fins. Local store that sells to HVAC, plumbers and contractors provided it. Also did compressed air, foaming cleaner (made for that) and water. 30 plus years of crud gone. Better acceleration I think due to how much lighter the car is 😆
If the radiator is still out then, try back-flushing the condenser with compressed air from the radiator side. Flushing from the front will just jam the debris further into the condenser. Same with the radiator. Fin combs work good too, if your careful not to bend the fins.
Thank you gentlemen for your comments. i was surprised how the debris kept blowing out And thank you for the tip on a fin comb, i did not know such a tool existed. i have one on order and will be picking it up at 3 at the local AutoZone.
