I do have Vettes available in a yard nearby but I don't think there's a need for a new column. My wiring isn't exactly butchered; someone did splice in new leads to the ignition switch but those are all okay now. I believe that must have been related to an aftermarket alarm it had at one point.
I think all I'm dealing with here are old worn out parts. My car does have 150k miles on it.
Everything is back in working order. A new ignition switch most likely solved the problem but I also installed a new key cylinder and inspected the geared linkage between the two.
Now on to the giant puddle of power steering fluid under the front of the car because it never ends.
I think I speak for a lot of us that we enjoyed your process of brainstorming solutions, asking what we all thought, and then beating us all to the punch by solving that specific issue yourself and moving on to the next challenge. Also I would have failed solving your ignition issue because I am awful with electricity.
Props to you for getting everything working. Also, PO's are (mostly) ********, except for the guy I bouight mine from. Haha.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed. I'm sure I'll have plenty more enjoyment for you guys in the future as the miles pile up!
The PO I bought from is a great guy, actually, and I can't really fault him for anything going on here. He treated this car very well. The alarm installation wiring butchery was almost certainly not his doing, as it was probably removed by the time he got the car.
Also, while I was upside down in the footwell, contorting every one of my limbs to best occupy what litle space there is to work with in that car, I realized it's probably a bit unfair to fault the older gentlemen who were in there before me. This is work for gumby people, not the typical Corvette Guy demographic! God I never want to be in that footwell again...
