Default HVAC programmer?

A little bit ago i made a post about my climate control not working, i believed it was due to the climate control head unit but after replacing capacitors and cleaning it i believe the issue is in the HVAC programmer (under the steering wheel). I painstakingly took it out today to inspect it and found what looks to be a lot of corrosion. i was wondering what caused this and if i should try cleaning it and trying it again before replacing the capacitors. images are connected to this post.

edit: i found that this is the filer cork almost completely disintegrated, would this be whats causing my issue?

Hey,

you can have the filter foam replaced. Have a look at this section from Batee tutorial :
(check the whole video if you're interested in the complete restoration process, at this point, might be interesting for you..)

You can get the restoration kit from his website : https://batee.com/products/90-96-c68...estoration-kit

You probably don't need everything from the kit but at least you can see what's required for repairing.
