Hello. I bought a 1989 C4 corvette. It has the greenwood body kit already installed. Does anyone have installation (de-installation) instructions? I don't know what to remove and the sequence to access the mounting hardware. I really don't like the look (especially that goofy rear wing) ["shudder"]. The front tends to rub on curbs and angled driveways and the rear spoiler makes it a pain to put gas in the car, especially when you have damaged arms.
Yes. I know I will have holes. I will have to patch those later. I need to get that wing off first, then the rest of that kit. I never disassembled a C4, so I am unfamiliar with the process.

Take out the license plate -- revealing another path to the tail lights. Through the license "hole" and the tail-lights, you should be able to feel/unbolt nuts in spoiler studs. Removing the inner door panel isn't quite as bad as putting it back on, but you'll need to do that to get to any bolts going thru the door skins (as suggested above). You'll probably need to remove the speaker and the rear access panel under the (interior) door panel. If you've never done that before, slide a flat bar (even a flat-blade screwdriver under the edges of the door panel to "pop" it out of the plastic retainers. (They make plastic tools in rivet kits if you REALLY want to be safe. Those kits are on Amazon). "Wing it" first to see if you can manage tho.
I already have to rear taillights off, but i only feel one of the two bolts. The bolt that is forward of the car was clearly visible and accessible through the rear taillight. In the picture you can see the bolt hole inside that is where I removed the forward bolt. The next picture, the bolt further back seems to be boxed-in, in the area between my two fingers. I can't see it or know how to get to it.
Thank for the help. It looks like I have to pull the rear bumper and other rear parts. I will either have to wait for my son to help me or take it to a body shop.

IIRC it takes a 7mm socket on a 1/4" drive wrench to remove the bolts holding the upper & sides of the rear bumper on. (10mm if I'm wrong) You get to all of them via the tail light holes...maybe 1 or 2 above the license cavity? Braces down by the wheels.
Thanks. We got it off without removing the bumper. I also got the rest of the kit off. If you go through the gas refill area, you can get to the open side of the area that is boxed in from the back side tail light area. It left a deformed area from the tightened bolts holes where it pulled up the area around the holes. The holes look awful, but with the exception of the the holes left behind,,, the car is looking much better.

Same here. My 87 had a body kit on it and yeeted that sucker as the first thing I did on the car. And it was a $500 part car destined for the scrap yard. lol

Really appreciate this thread and your hard work in the removal, I just had this same question a few weeks ago for my 89. My car (avatar) has white original paint thats in excellent condition and I was going to remove all but the horrendous wing, which has three mounting locations, not two like yours, and now that i see the size of the holes, it's definitely staying on. I may still remove the rest...One thing to look out for is if you do not replace with the original type front air dam, you may have some overheating issues, there are threads out there about this, FAQ Area?.. Summer is on it's way and you're in Texas, yeehaw
Yeah. Nice looking car you have. My car is an 89 as well. I had an 87 a few month ago, but hit an animal crossing the road just as I was entering a cure down a country road. went off the curve and totaled the car. I only had it for 4 months. I found this 89 with same color in good condition so I jumped on it. I plan on replacing the front air dam. There is also a panel missing on both sides underneath the door rocker panel area between the front and rear tires. You can see an exposed factory wire harness runs front to back that the panel was covering. They had to take that panel off to install the ground kit. I don't have the front air dam or the two panels for each side. I bought the car as you see in the pictures with everything on it. I will have to order the front air dam and the two panels. I know the license plate says texas but that is pictures from when I first bought it from a guy in texas, but I live in Louisiana. The overheating is worse here In LA than in the drier areas of texas, Because of the high heat coupled with high humidity, you don't get as much evaporative cooling effect. I will get the holes patched eventually.

LOL, yeah,,,, I would burn the kit also,,, but apparently it's worth money. I could sell it, but my son wants it. I think I will go with the same/similar plan that you have to patch the holes.
I wouldn't trash the kit. There's probably a member or two here that would want to buy it. Maybe they'll trade their rocker panels to you as part of the deal.

I didn't know about those other side panels, thanks again. Your vette is a great color, shame about the 87, a fear that I always have driving mine, wild animals or the worse..humans!
Good luck with it and enjoy it!

You're welcome. Glad if this can help anyone else.
