About 650 miles ago I put in LS7 lifters I bought from Lloyd Elliott. I pulled the intake to inspect them to see how they're wearing and after pulling 4 or 5, one jumped out to me. One has some dark discoloration of the body. I don't believe this discolored section makes contact with the lifter bores, because they're slightly recessed. The lifter bore that this lifter came out of also has some slight discoloration in the horizontal plane. It feels smooth when running your finger over it.
I don't see damage or discoloration due to high heat (that blueish coloring). It seems like carbon or varnish deposits put there by the oil. Very odd, especially for being only 650 miles old! You are keeping up with oil changes, correct?
The sliding surfaces appear to be pretty smooth. I would reinstall them and not stress about them. Make sure they are free of any grit before sliding them back in.
