rad leak, almost power steering leak, fixed.. need rad.
Vets-Vet!
Began a simple job of replacing upper/lower rad hose (Hoping a hose was the culprit in my mysterious coolant loss(1qt/2weeks)), having it on jackstands, and getting to look engine bay over, i noticed where the power steering pulley was rubbing the power steering return line from reservoir. Called parts house, was told they had a replacement. The hose was supposed to be to me, shortly after noon. Well it arrived at 330pm, wrong hose. idk how they can operate a parts store, thinking a 24" section of 5/8 heater hose was
the pre-bent hose i was told was a match. Ended up =finding a hose, fresh fluid, and i couldn't take up a bay any longer (this is 2 full days). I believe the $400 aluminum radiator 20 months old is..... dripping!! and after logging onto there site, in order for warrantee replacement, you must show a receipt with, Accepted type of antifreeze.. Sooooo...without that receipt I'm a sitting duck. Gotta find a good rad and not an eBay 4 core, USA seller ,unit...lol here is a picture of the injectors.. terrible picture.. K.I.M they are a year old now...
We took the power steering pump off it's mount, and removed both rubber hoses. no leaks, i cleaned them really good, and replaced all of the 1989 GM hose clamps. Took bracket off reservoir, 100 thoroughly cleaned bracket, res. that whole area is now a lot more presentable. And being the newb I am, my picture of 2 fuel injectors, doesn't show part #.... tomorrow.
It was the radiator leaking, and not a hose/clamp.. Got a nice unit shipped, took 2 days to arrive. Hottest Ambiant's been is 85F and in open air I'm consistently seeing 184F.... stopped, it climbs, but fan kicks on (If it gets that hot). Totally satisfied with how it RUNS! But not so with how it 90% only fires on second attempt of turning it over for a cold start. Installing another new fuel pump, and tracking down a "snap-in" harness (-vs- cut/strip/crimp) it's stopped misbehaving. Are there any good write-ups about installing a catch can? A nice kit i found arrives Mid next week. Just want to say thanks to those involved in this thread, and or others I've posted.
I have an AEM UEGO Wideband, as I built a new engine, South Bay adjustable pressure regulator, new diaphragm. South Bay Bosch 3 injectors. I didn't want to go WOT until knowing i was lean. In the morning it crank for 3? 4? seconds then lights, stumbles, shuts off. 2nd start attempt it fires but is missing pretty bad, for two - three seconds, then gains ignition on a couple more cylinders, then! a second later it's on all 8. This is a pretty consistent starting pattern. Once it idles, on all 8. shutting it off. it re-fires fine. It starts full temperature no problem. Driving to work in the morning, is a railroad. IF!!! I get there and a train is rolling through, put her in park, and shut it down. Refires fine. The whole experience is flawless, except for this rough cold first start. I'm running a nice high torque, reduced gear starter, Optima redtop, NAPA alternator. The distributor is 100% new, base fuel pressure has been set, replaced mass airflow sensor, tps, (set correct tps voltage) iac valve, rebuilt throttle body (This enabled a surgical idle), once at operating temp, in gear it idles at 600rpms, solid. No dips, revs. no cats, 2 mufflers, new o2 sensor, replaced all relays. Oh! it only starts odd initially. Once it warms up, i can park it in 20degree weather for 4 hours, and it starts fine. The cold start I'm complaining, concerned about, is after i park it, and it sits overnight. I mean, it sounds like a Black Hawk starting in the morning. Sorry to re-hash the whole scenario 15 different variations.. I have a FSM. Thanks for any further input.
Did you ever resolve your starting issue after sitting overnight? I have the exact same problem on an 1984 C4 and did you ever figure out what the EST was?
