Scary day, was on my way home accelerating up a hill. Car just... Kept accelerating. I threw it in nuetral to step on the brakes and stop. When I put it in nuetral the rpms went to the moon, as in redline. My foot was nowhere near the go-pedal. The dash went full christmas tree lights everywhere. I shut the car off and stuck it in park (automatic)
I got stopped in a bad place (uphill blind curve) so I was determined to get off that spot. Popped the hood - the throttle body lever (what the cable attaches to) was unsurprisingly not at the default position. I pushed it closed.
Restarted the car. It seemed fine. No lights. Normal idle rpms. So I did what was probably not the best idea but it worked - I just barely tapped the gas so it started (put into D of course) accelerating slowly. I then rode the brakes the whole way home.
Once home I was able to take a look. Throttle body springs closed fully no issues. However the cable from the throttle body to the (idiotic) asr thing seems slack. But I don't know what baseline is as I've never messed with the witchcraft that is the asr.
I don't have an ASR, can't help you with that. But, while you wait for someone smarter on it to come along I would suggest that you verify your floormat didn't get moved and cause the stick. You could have even moved it back getting out of the car and it looks normal now.
Many times in my days at the Dealership I would get this complaint, most of the time it was the Pedal Stuck on the Mat.
So start there after that see if pedal is free, it's a very basic system a fork a cable a fulcrum a few cams on the ASR and throttle body
There is an adjustment for the ASR in the fsm. However, sure it isn’t the butterflies sticking? As the bushings for their axle wear the butterflies can become cocked in the bore and stick.
Either way you need make sure all the cable sections are free and and properly routed. The cables pass a few cams and at rest shouldn't be under real tension and as mentioned throttle plates need inspection.

I removed the throttle body and have now repeatedly 'snapped' the throttle lever to actuate the butterfly. I can't see any indication of the butterfly sticking. There is no gapping or appearant wear. Spring tension on the lever is good.
In removing the throttle body I noticed the tps looks like a it got hit by a rock (or more likely I dropped a wrench on it at some point). The plastic is mildly cracked. Could TPS be a culprit? I didn't think the TPS on its own could 'stick the throttle'.
I took another look at the ASR cams with the covers off. I found a piece of wood or rock. tiny pebble sized. It was jammed into the cam that has the cruise control cable attached. Could that be a culprit?

It definitely gets put on a Dam good reason list, if all is clean and moving as should be, Drive and see

Have to wait to verify. Still have the throttle body off. Decided to replace the gasket, clean everything, and replace a damaged iac connector while everything is apart. Parts will be here this weekend then it all goes back together.
I hate the asr it isn't clear how it operates and what it controls. I get that it was advanced for 1993 but the thing is like the worst aspects of drive by wire and cable drive. Okay off my soap box.
It is back together. And the throttle appears to be working normally....but other than removing the tiny pebble I've got no reason why the thing got stuck in the first place.
