After removing all the lash, how much additional turn did you give them all for preload?

So I got a little minor reassembly done today but my gasket set came with a bunch of little o-rings and I have no idea where they go.

Packs of 4 are probably injectors. The other two look like fuel lines to rails on L98?

Could be valve cover center bolt seals.

The 16 orings are probably valve stem seals. Since you had the machine shop do the heads, they should have (probably did) install new seals when they reassembled the heads

I gave the machine shop the stem seals, they are sort of cap shaped. Something to do with the fuel rail and injectors sounds likely as I didn’t disassemble any of that. Thanks for the responses.

Literature that comes with the gasket set usually lists what’s included. Sometimes it’s on the outside of the box. Check and see

Damn fine print, lol. Yeah everything I didn’t use was fuel rail/injector related which I didn’t take apart.

It’s always something! Did my starter/starter solenoid just pick now to go out? I was just trying to crank the engine with the fuel pump fuse pulled to build up some oil pressure.

Regarding the starter issue, I rotated the engine to different positions just to make sure I didn’t somehow find a spot on the ring gear with no teeth. But problem persists, starter spins but isn’t engaging ring gear. Battery is fully charged.

Sounds like the bendix isn't shooting out. They do just fail every now and then. It isn't newish is it?

I haven’t replaced it in the 3 years I’ve had the car, currently 80k miles. Off to O’ Reily’s I guess.

Bang on the starter with a hammer and see if you can shock it back into existence. If you can’t get the hammer head on it, use an extension of sorts and knock on it

New level of frustration achieved! I have the new starter on, it’s spinning the engine (you can see the alternator in the video), but something sounds odd/wrong. Plugged fuel pump back in and it made no difference.

Checked for spark, spark is present. Tried checking compression by holding finger over spark plug hole, felt nothing. Can see rocker arm moving through oil fill hole. I’m at a loss.

Ok, I have zero compression on at least two cylinders (3&4 they’re quick and easy to check). Could I have SOME HOW over tightened the rockers and now the valves are being held open?

That's the logical explanation for no compression.
