Have take my lt4 apart due to a leak at the crank seal. Is there a way to not let coolant fall on my new petris opti?
There's no water running through the intake so you wont get a big flood. Just make sure you really get the coolant level below the water pump as best as you can.
I had to do exactly this repair. I removed both knock sensors and drained the block into a mortar mixing tub from Home Depot. Because draining the block doesn't drain the cold-side radiator hose, I also drained the radiator at its drain ****. Not a drop on the 1 year old Petris because the block was completely drained, and the hose was drained too. I was able to reuse the drained coolant.
Even easier method which I used several times was to drain the coolant from the radiator. Remove the thermostat, and take a shop vac and place it into the thermostat opening and suck every bit of coolant out of the engine that you can get. You can then remove the pump without and coolant leaking, and clean up is just emptying the shop vac tank.

It is easier to blow it out the radiator drain than clean up a shop vac. Best to remove bottom radiator hose. Blowing will get more than sucking. Dan
