would it help performance at all to replace my fuel injectors or take them out and clean them by hand? If so, how much do they cost and where should I get them? They are the original ones apparently and it is an 87, so I imagine there is at least a little junk collected on them that fuel additive cant get off...
If I were you I'd just replace them.
Last week I took my '85 injectors out (104K miles)
and they were TOTALLY BEAT. 3 of them were physically
cracked and brittle.. I just got a new set.. Worth the peace
of mind..
You could get a set of used 19-22lbs ones pretty cheap nowadays..
Heck i just sold a NEW 22lbs set for $100.
Also, what fuel pressure should my regulator be set at? about 2 months ago my gas mileage dropped about 10 mpg and I am trying to find out whats up. the head gasket was blown and it has been replaced along with the oxygen sensor, but my mileage is still low. I was getting 27mpg average, now I get around 16mpg, but my driving routine hasnt changed.
:iagree: I don't know how clean there gonna get from hand cleaning them. $100 bucks is a good price for new injectors if you can find them. I sent my injectors out to the above tuner for inspection/cleaning/flow testing. He'll take a look at the and tell you wether or not they are worth salvaging. I can't see why they wouldn't be however
If you are needing new injectors I can hook you up with a set of Accel 24lb I bought for my 86 and put about 100 miles on them. I thought they were bad, but the problem turned out to be my wiring so I have an extra set. You can have them for $125 which is $100 cheaper than new. Just IM if interested.
