Hello everyone, I found motor oil in the distributor cap of my 89 6 SPD. I think it must be an oil seal on the shaft. Does anyone have a diagram of the HEI? I'm on Guam getting a new distributor is a challenge. I'm hoping I can find an O ring or seal. Ty
I would be checking your PCV valve! There's a good chance that there's nothing is wrong with your distributor...If the pressure inside your block cannot vent, it'll force its way out anyway it can (seals, gaskets, distributor shaft, etc) Check all of your vacuum lines, verify engine vacuum #'s, does the brake booster have/hold vacuum? Pull the oil fill cap when it's running, do you feel air pressure coming out? How's the oil look? Pull some spark plugs and check for oil residue. Sounds to me like the crankcase is getting over pressurized....could be bad piston rings or who knows...Like I said, make sure the PCV valve isn't plugged....Let us know what you find, good luck👍
Thank you for this post.
I ran the car and checked for air coming out of the oil filler cap. Nothing. The booster holds pressure and the PCV rattles when I shake it. I watched a video on rebuilding the HEI distributor. I was hoping it had broken seal. But there is no seal or O ring on the shaft. Could the oil pimp be the cause?
I cleaned out the cap and reinstalled it I ran the car connected to my TunerPro software. Two problems
Battery voltage is 11.00. The alternator is working correctly. I brought it to a shop.
EST fault? what does that mean.
Thank you for your help
