Default 1990 C4 Base Model Intermittent Wiper Mode

1990 C4 Base Model Intermittent Wiper Mode

I used to have intermittent wiper mode. Now, I have to turn the wipers on to use them. I want to use the intermittent feature/mode. Does anyone know what my fix is?

I removed the wiper motor and took the cover off. I cleaned the circuit board, but it did not solve my problem. Please tell if someone here can help me solve this issue. - Thanks

A little clarity please, are you saying if you rotate the switch a notch or two nothing happens. or if you rotate against the spring backwards nothing happens and the only function that works is full on no pulse

I mean that when I turn on the wipers, to the intermittent setting, it does not turn on.

When I push the tab forward, I get the wiper on along with water to clean the windshield.

When I turn the wiper on to the intermittent tab, nothing happens.

When I turn the wiper to the 'On' position, it turns on the low or slow setting, and I can turn the switch to 'High' at will.

From under the dash you can unplug the the wiper switch connector and use a meter to read resistance between the white (12v) and brown (Pulse signal). It should read open at the HI setting, 24kohms at the OFF, MIST, and LO settings, 1.2Mohms at the longest delay. That 1.2Mohms should decrease each time click the switch further down the the delay settings, but should never be lower than 24kohms. Also check white to blue and you should get 0ohms in all settings except OFF.

If you don't those numbers, your switch is probably bad; if the switch matches those readings I listed, you probably have a wiper circuit board issue. The circuitboard is all just simple electronics components (no IC chips). If you're careful you can extract the CB (you will need a plastic repair tool or soldering iron to resecure the board to the housing) and you can inspect the components for any visible signs of failure. You may get lucky and find a blown capacitor or burned diode.

Thanks,

I will go in and test based on your instructions
