Harmonic balancer install question/issue
I recently pulled motor due to a failed lifter. After alot of work and new parts im finally getting ready to re-install the motor in the car. Im running into a issue with my harmonic balancer that is making me nervous. Using a harmonic balancer tool I cannot get the balancer to seat flush with the timing cover. It leaves a 1/4in gap between the back of the balancer and the timing cover. It is a new oem spec balancer and I did use a double roller timing chain (cloyes 9-1145). All the research I've done says that the balancer should sit flat.
HOWEVER. I installed the old water pump and pulley and the belt alignment looks spot on... is the gap normal if the belt lines up? Any help on how to proceed would be appreciated since I planned to install the motor today and this is a big road block.
