1996 Collector's Edition. I'm going to have the steering rack rebuilt and the company I'm using says that they will put new boots on for me during rebuild if I supply them. I have no trouble finding the boots, but all the ones for my year, even the ACDelco Gold ones are supplied with zip ties instead of the metal clamps. Is this an acceptable substitute?
I have two sides to this problem, first maybe your mechanic should have the clamp's and tools if they do a lot of racks.
I understand the boot supplier not giving the crimp with the boot because it takes a special tool, and again your mechanic should have the tool (it's cheap $15+-) now the metal clamps are available on Amazon as well to tool you can check with your mechanic see if he has the tools and you can order as needed to supply
