Default Bad O2?

Long story short, my 86 has been running lean, surging at idle, and running like crap. Recorded some data using ALDL and was told the o2 sensor was "slow". I have a graph of the data below (At idle). Is it on its last legs? I should also probably mention that when I got the car it was running so rich that there was a constant puddle of gas in the plenum due to a faulty fpr and seemed to have been running like that for a while, which makes me believe the sensor itself is fouled.

A bad O2 will def make it run terrible. Do you have any codes?
when mine went bad, ran terrible, threw a code, I knew which one to change and all was well.

The only code I’ve gotten is a lean code, despite other data telling me that the car thinks it’s running rich. I’ve heard of degrading o2’s that won’t pop a code but will still make the car run worse so I’m leaning towards the idea of it just being near the end of its life but not to the point where it will alert the ecu

that’s the code I got. Driver side lean. I did not do any data logging though. I knew my injectors were good so I went straight to changing the O2. Fixed my issue

I appreciate your data logging efforts and results. And please don't take this the wrong way, but a quality 02 sensor from Rockauto is $18.

If there's even the slightest chance of a problem from that sensor, change it.

Do you know when it was last replaced?...Change it.

Do you plan to do a tuneup? Plugs, wires, cap, rotor?...change it.

I've had good results with NTK O2 sensors. $18 from Rockauto.

I am totally with you on this one
I am planning on replacing it just in case, especially since the part is so cheap that it wouldn’t make a difference otherwise

It would be interesting to see that same datalog graph after you install the new O2 sensor. Please post that if you get the chance.

Is thee a specific reason that the NTK sensor is listed for Bank 1, Sensor 1?

Because my '90 only has the one O2 sensor on the driver side.

I'de considered the NTK ones in the past but never installed on.

But the Bosch ones haven't been very reliable. I've went through several and they were all sketchy at best.

All the L98 engines had just 1 O2 sensor on the driver's side. So that is Bank 1 Sensor 1. There's no Bank 2 Sensor 1 until the introduction of the LT1 in 1992. The 92 and 93 cars use this same sensor on both banks. Then, in 94 they changed to a heated sensor which is a different part number.

I had a new AC Delco O2 sensor fail within a year so I switched to using this NTK sensor and haven't had any failures on my C4s. I've installed 6-8 of them in the past 5 years. NTK is a division of NGK.

Hm. Gonna have to pick one up and give it a try to see how it does. I'm kind of tired of replacing O2 sensors so often.
