I will be removing the driveshaft on my 96 this Fall for new u-joints. I will be doing the grinding/bending of the spot welded sheet metal so I don't have to mess with the C beam. On some videos the parking brake cable is removed and on some they don't mention it. Does the parking brake cable defiantly have to be removed or can the shaft be gotten out without? Thanks, Dan
Don't mess with the cable it opens many potential problems, you have already accepted the hardest thing Bending the weld. In all the Corvettes I worked on I never disconnected the cable to remove a transmission, driveshaft or rear.

Thank you both for taking the time to answer. Especially with the answer I was hoping for. Dan

Are you experiencing issues with the prop shaft/ u-joints or just preventive maintenance?
Great question. I have wanted to change all 6 original u-joints. At 73 I did not want to try it on jack stands. I convinced my wife it would cost a lot at a shop. So, I bought one of the new Quick Jack 6000's last week. I love it. Wish I had bought sooner. It goes higher than the old 5000. The car seems very solid all the way up. Dan

Brilliant! I want one so much, and great project for it!
Dumb question. What are you guys grinding and bending? Are you saying you can bend or cut a pinch weld so you can pull the driveshaft without unbolting the C beam?

One of the reasons I wanted to try the "bending" first is because, you can see, I have a spot weld out close to what needs to be ground off. I believe these were done by hand and not machine. Dan
