Some things noteworthy between the 2 engines but not necessarily means it'll create issues. I guess it depends on how far you want to make the '89 run and drive like an '89 would.
Soooo between the 2:
Different lb/hr injectors
Flat tappet vs roller
Different ecm I would upgrade to newer which come with wiring changes
External egr plumbing for aluminum heads
Cold start deleted on later year
2 piece rms vs 1 piece
Difference in maf burn off I think
Hope that's it but others will chime in with any other gotchas.

Not sure on vettes, but on fbodies, 85 still had v belts. So pulleys could be different; along with compressor, alternator etc and might have different connections. Does the fuel rail connect the same way throughout the TPI years? Also, do all sensor electronics have the same connections?
