Howdy kids. 87 coupe. trying to find a cooling fan controller unit that scews into the head. Ideally i want to find one in 185/175 range. When search on line I type in coolant sensor and all I get are returns for the unit the sends the info to the dash display, not a unti that grounds the fan relay. Any help appreciated.
Phatty
Just search 3/8 not switch and summit, jegs, speedway, amazon, ebay all have them. Example

If your planning to tie the switch into main fan, that temp range is OK.
If your planning to have that switch for the booster fan, you may find it annoying to hear that fan all the time.
I am basing this off my loud annoying booster fan.😆
I ended up going with the TS 136. I usually travel the back roads and traffic hasn't been bad here lately. Even in light traffic through town I have yet to turn any fan on this summer in my 87 Z52. I usually do my rides in the summer very early in the morning. I needed a new AC condensor so I just deleted the old one. My cooling system is renewed though, new radiator, deleted oil cooler, deleted AC condensor, new water pump, new 185 thermostat and my timing is BTDC 6°. As best my ECM temp gauge and a temp gun can tell my TS 136 turns on at 220°. I personally believe these switches very by a few degrees from one to another. The SW 505 was another choice, I still haven't found the new one I bought, dammit, it's here somewhere. I cruise in 90 degree daytime temps at 187°. The link above is to Greg's @GREGGPENN original thread about fan switchs.

Thanks for the help kids MUCH APPRECIATED believe me! I found the exact piece I want from a Corvette Central vid on YT but their website doesn't seem to work,,,,are they still in business? thanks.
I have used this one for over a year, no issues at all in the 200/185 range, I recently switched to the 185/175 and feel it is too low. My car tends to run between 185 and 200 which is perfect for the 200/185 as the fan is off on the highway (unless the A/C is on) and comes on when stopped as soon as the temp reaches 200. With the 185/175 the fan does not stop, at least on my car.

I agree a fan switch (even for the main fan) would run ALL THE TIME if spec'd as the OP (Phat87) suggests. I had one like that myself -- as noted in linked threads from years ago. MAM used to sell one. (Don't know if they quit due to discontinuation OR realization that the range made zero sense UNLESS you're building a drag car. Hint: I tried the MAM 180 switch for a few months too. Not what you want. I have a modified car and it wasn't "ideal". DEFINITELY a bad idea for an unmodified 87 as indicated by the OPs thread "badge".
Phat, don't pick anything that turns on below 200 and off below 185. Keep in mind the dash display's sensor is high up in the engine meaning it's going to show a bit hotter than the ECM sees....up to 10-deg in reality.
GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK AND LET YOUR CAR BE ABLE TO RUN LONG STRETCHES WITHOUT THE FAN RUNNING!!!!!!!!!!!!
