Default Low tone horn?

My 1985 Corvette horn on the passenger side stopped working. Now it sounds like a clown car. I ordered a "low tone" replacement horn to fix it because the horn on the driver's side seems very high pitched. The broken one on the right side has an "A" stamped on it. I ordered a replacement horn with the understanding it's a low-pitched horn. It's an aftermarket part as the original type is no longer available. Anyone else have this happen to their car?

I just replaced the 'A' horn on my 1996, passenger side. Ordered it from World Parts Direct and their website says it's the high note horn for my model year. Other years might be different in regards to A, E, F horns.

In the past, I have swapped horns from other vehicles to my vehicles. I hated my F150's horn and loved my mid 90s BMW horns so I grabbed a few from the junkyard and just swapped them out. It only wants 12v so there is no wiring you have to worry about.

one of mine quit working and the high price made my head spin. Power makes the electromagnet pull the diaphragm and a contact switch. Current breaks and the diaphragm returns and remakes the contacts. repeat. I ground the rivets off and took it apart. The contacts were burnt and I sanded them clean and put it back together with machine screws. Had to tune the sound with the adjustment screw and paint it black but works good as new with zero cost.

20 years ago I needed I needed horns for my 86 to pass a safety inspection. I bought a temporary set from Harbor Freight for less than $10. They sounded great and I'm still using them. Any horns will work but installing them in pairs insures they sound right.
