I have owned a 90 for 4-1/2 years. For most of this time I have had trouble with the master cylinder. The problem is mostly with the switch in between the cylinders that is suppose to transfer fluid from the rear cylinder if the front cylinder goes down. Well, one day on the way to work, I go for the brakes, none to be had. With some down shifting and using the emergency brake I did manage to get it stopped. So I took it to my mechanic and he "fixed" it. I got a new master and new switch and now I have the same problem starting over again. This is the 5th switch and 2nd master. Am I the only one with this problem? Is there a cost effective solution (other than dishing out the hundreds for a new GM master). Thanks for the help.
I had a problem in my 85 w/ master cylinder. I replaced my original w/ rebuilt. Rebuilt lasted about 2 months. I recomend new GM master cylinder not rebuilt. Good Luck, Guy
I tried a rebuild, it leaked from the same place as yours.
I bought a new MC and no more leaks.
BTW I got it from Jeff Koop, not hundreds. I have used many rebuilds in the past, I suppose these particular versions cause rebuilding problems. I saved my original to rebuild as a spare ( I even have the bad rebuild), but the kit is pretty high priced.
