Original radio and speakers, left one is working fine, but nothing coming from the right. Tested the LR balance **** and all is fine there, just no sound from the back right speaker. I'm likely going to take it apart to see if I can diagnose an issue, just seeing if anyone has any advice around it, will post updates as I go.
This is a good oportunity to swap speakers as a test. I do not have 89 schematics but I can't see them being different. just lay the left speaker next to the right, plug it in, and see if it works. If you are handy with a multimeter, you can set it on AC and watch the voltage as long as the signal is not killed by a shorted speaker amp. Just know it is tiny. You can use the good speaker to see what the actual voltage should be. But the multimeter is the more difficult method to see the problem. I believe power is pin A, ground pin B and sound is D & C. The amp built into the speaker is suspect.

without tearing everything apart I'd take the grils off and unscrew the speakers and swap them. Then see if the bad side is also bad on the swapped side. Could be as easy as just the speaker, rather than the amp in the box.
His problem is the right rear, they are just 4 screws. He can test the speaker with a 9 volt battery at the back on the spade connectors on the speaker (actually it's the driver. what most people call the speaker is actually the entire box. The driver is the paper, magnet, and frame.)

Do you know the easiest way to swap the speakers, I've not been able to find anything online, I'm assuming I remove the clip I've circled, just not sure how to?

I've done the 9v test and both speakers react the same way, they both make sound and vibrate, I assume this means the right speaker is functioning properly and the cause of no audio to it is a different issue?
Do you have a Bose stereo system ?? That image appears to be just a standard stereo NON Bose connected to a non amplified speaker.
That image you have there you can see the collar that surrounds the connector and you can in that image the little notch the collar has to go over to be removed.

I am at my limit of being able to help you as I do not have 89 schematics and I do not have knowledge of the 89. I believe you have a non amplified factory stereo. If it is non amplified and you can not get it unplugged you can jump one side of the car to the other using 2 wires. Since it appears the right side driver works, I ASSUME the stereo has lost that channel or the wiring / connectors are the problem. The below schematic is to an 88. It is what I guess you have. According to the 88 FSM Electrical manual C310 is "Behind right hand side of instrument panel." That would put it near the back of the stereo and it contains both sets of rear speaker wires.

Is the other speaker the same and works? Then you don't have a bose radio. And don't have bose amps
Swap the speakers and see what happens.
I can see in the picture the plug will release with a small screwdriver
