I've been working on a 383 build that's going to go into my 89, since I pulled the transmission to rebuild and one thing turned into another haha. Been doing lots of reading while waiting for parts since that's all I can do at this point, and I read a couple threads about high overlap cams causing vacuum issues with brakes and accessories. Looking for some advice on whether I shouldn't even worry about it, or if I should start looking at ways to increase my vacuum to make sure I still have brakes. The cam I'm going to be using is a Comp Cams Thumpr with hydraulic flat tappet lifters, .479/.465 lift, 279/297 duration. My best friend had trouble with his 66 Impala SS with it's 409 loosing vacuum in drive thrus and it got super close to hitting the car in front while holding the brake at one lunch run. He dailys his 66 impalas, 62 Chevelle SS, and other lopey cam big blocks in his assorted collection. For the SS in the end we put in an electric vacuum with a standard vacuum ball just for the brakes.
"Brakes for days" he says now We took some of his cars to a car show this past weekend. 4 cars, 4 trophies
