Is 96 Transmission removal required to pull engine?
Correct me if I am wrong. My 96 LT4's release bearing is physically attached to the pressure plate. Therefore, if the bellhousin is unbolted from the engine block, the release bearing and release bearing arm is still attached to the bellhousing won't allow the engine and pressure plate unit to seperate. So is it mandatory to remove the transmission first to pull the LT4 engine? Could the clutch release arm be disconnected to solve this problem?

The engine must be able to move forward appx 5" before the transmission input shaft is clear of the bell housing, and the engine can then be lifted. The engine will not move 5" forward before the pan hits the cross member, the mounts hit the steering rack, the crank hub hits the rack, etc.
The FSM Section 6A-1A "Engine Assembly Removal" states step #23: Transmission. #24: Clutch cover and plate (manual transmission.) #25: Flywheel (manual transmission.
Another step in the FSM that is easy to overlook is step #14: Electrical connector and cover from wiper motor. << Evidently, the engine can't be moved far enough forward for removal without interference with the wiper motor unless the cover is first removed. And this is with the transmission already removed.
Perhaps someone that has actually done or attempted an R&R with the manual trans still installed will comment.
