Default “Limp mode” at 200 degrees

So I have a 1985 and I’m running into an issue where when it hits 200 degrees it randomly revs up and then pretty much puts it in limp mode where power and throttle response gets greatly reduced. I’m thinking about carb swapping it but before then I want to make sure I fix this issue. Id appreciate the feedback

Some sensor is tripping, probably something like the MAF, you would need to run with a OBD1 diagnostic tool and look at the feedback from the ECM to see what its seeing. Don't throw money at it and just replace things.

Is an SES light being set when it does this? Pull the code.

I also own a 1985. I don't recall the exact symptoms, but a MAF Code 34 makes the car almost undrivable. It runs and can move under its own power, you may be able to get it off the highway to safety but not much further.

You need to pull the codes. If it is illuminating the Check Engine Soon light, it has set a code.

yeah it has a code for 34 and 44. So would I just have to replace the maf relay and maf as a whole? The car starts and runs but sounds and feels groggy and choked up. Could this be the issue to fix that?

One is a MAF code, the other is an O2 sensor code.

You always fix the upstream code first, so fix 34, reset the ECM (unhook battery) and see if 44 comes back. It likely won't. It could be a bad MAF sensor, bad connector to the sensor or burnoff module, or the burnoff module in 85. 85 is unique with the burnoff module in the dash. As such they probably don't make any "new" burnoff modules, and you might have to find one in a junkyard or some corvette specific parts stores.
