i have a 383 stroker in my 86 and i want to convert either Carb it or EFI my question is what do you do with the old TPI wiring to the injectors remove them totally or just tuck them away if i dont disconect them from the ecm will they continue to fire or what tks
If you're certain you won't go back to EFI, personally I would cut them off so there's nothing flopping around in the engine bay. Just make sure to cover the cut ends of the wires so they can't short to ground. A good way to do that would be fold each end over and tape it. Yes, the ECM will continue to send signals on those wires, but it won't make any difference if there's nothing connected.
I'd remove the entire engine wiring harness intact and fab-up a replacement for the carb'd engine. There's only 5-6 wires needed for the carb engine and most of them go to C100. You would need a firewall side connector (or a complete scrap harness) for C100 (the bulkhead connector under the brake booster) from a donor car. Or reconfigure your existing harness by removing everything no longer needed which is about 85% of the wires.
If you're using an electric fuel pump you'll have to work a control strategy for it. (3-wire switch from a Chev Vega works. It is still available from Rockauto.) If you have an automatic the converter lock up needs a solution. For a 4+3, go manual control. The cooling fans will need on-engine sending units for control. The VSS on the transmission can be run straight to the cluster.
