Default C4 runs hot

I have a '94 C4 LT-1 6 spd w 38 K I've had it for 6 months and done a few things.
What bothers me is it has always run hot. In summer with out air on the gauge reads 245. I read that with air on both fans run. That is how i've been driving the car. I read that i can wire both fans to one solinoid ? Any ideas?? Thank you

If you are driving and it is actually 245 your problem has nothing to do with the fans. You have another problem. Lot of posts here. First thing is to pull the radiator. It is probably clogged up. Dan

245F in traffic is pretty normal, but if its that way when you're moving, you have a plugged up radiator. Pull the shroud and see.

Take the radiator out and clean the fins. Change thermostat

@vader86 245' on a hot day in traffic is not normal. After cleaning the condenser and a new radiator, the hottest my 94 LT1 runs in traffic on a 98 degree day is 204'

Is that "245" on the analog gauge or the digital readout in the speedometer LCD? Big a$$ difference. Use the digital only for assessing coolant temperatures.

This is why my 90 was running much higher temps than it had typically run before the event that caused this, and ran after I found and cleaned it. It ran at normal temperature even in 100+F ambient at highway speed. But turned on CHECK GAUGES at idle in the same ambients.

You need to answer what was pointed out by IHBD. Did you get that number from the analog gauge or digital??? The analog gauge is not accurate to read from. If your digital gauge is showing 245 then indeed you have an issue, but I'm guessing you are trying to base that 245 on analog. If you are having a high temp issue it would be a dirt clogged radiator that was mentioned, fan(s) not coming on or thermostat not fully opening.

Take a picture of the air dam area and let us see what it looks like.

I installed fine mesh aluminum window screen to keep out all but the smallest debris. i pick off by hand the larger debris it stops and routinely vacuum out dust. Much of what plugs the condensor and radiator is the accumulation of dust and less than pinhead size rocks. My factory radiator bears such testimony.

I'd seen you post a different photo of how you did that but I couldn't tell much from it.

This is a much better photo and I can see what you did there in this one.

That'll certainly kep a lot of debris out, but I wonder if it'll also impede air flow, too. And likely to get just as clogged up.

It's something you'll have to look at once in a while, depending how often you drive it.

Yeah, the analogue gauges on these things are horribly innacurate. So, yeah, agree, definitely refer to the digital reading for a more accurate read.

@Natty C as i've mentioned, with the screen in, so far the hottest my LT1 has got is 201' in town traffic on 99' days. In temps 70'-90' on the highway temps typically run 181'-188'. the fine mesh makes more sense to me than the coarse screens i see vendors selling which stops little to nothing, imo. i've heard skepticism from others on the use of a fine mesh screen, i simply do not understand why. Certainly dust will pass through fine mesh, pinhead sized less so. It also keeps insects from impregnating the fins with their sticky goo. I routinely vacuum from the front and using a wand blowing compressed air in between the condenser and radiator will keep things as clean as possible. Your comments are well taken, and i'm staying with the screen.

Oh, I wasn't speculating against the use of the screen. Heck, I'm considering doing it myself.

just got to mention DeWits radiators. My 1992 runs 195 in summer with AC on full. What a difference it made.
