Default 1984 engine help

I have a 84 thats im looking to do a mild/wild street build with about +350 hp, my budget is low to med cost so cutting corners when i can, so i was wondering if the l83 would be worth rebuilding (needs to be taken to a machine shop) or if i should find a different engine to rebuild

If i were to rebuild the l83 i already have a set of 062 vortec heads (all supporting mods for higher lift), rpm intake, a holley sniper efi and hyperspark distributor, the cam i was thinking of using is the comp cams thumpr retrofit roller 12-600-8

so my main concern is if there is a better engine i can get for around the same price as having the old one cleaned and rehoned, while using the parts i already have, or if i the l83 is worth throwing the money at

The stock shortblock is faily good and will support +350 hp. Block has 2-bolt mains. Pistons are forged, but that is no help if you end up boring the block..
Crank an rods are nothign special.
If you are doing machine work, i would say that the stock block in as good starting point as any other gen1 with 2-bolt mains.

The big question is do you want a roller cam? If so, get a later L98 or vortec to build from. Retro fit roller cam kits are pricey.

No, no special recommendations. It is way too much to choose from. If crank and rods are good, then you can reuse them with new bearings. If they need machine work, then you could look for other options because machining hours adds up to $$.
