Was reading a post about windshield replacement. He mentioned that trim and weatherstripping is also required. My windshield is also cracked and when they finish sanding the roads around here i will replace it.I have insuarance for the windshield. My question is Is it neccessary to replace the trim and weatherstripping ? That would make me feel better after paying the 200 dollar deductable for a crack caused by some moron in a mini van passing me and immediatley pulling back into the lane and showering me with rocks and sand!!DAMN THOSE MINI VAN DRIVERS!!!! :mad
Re: REPLACING WINDSHIELD!ARE MORE PARTS REQUIRED? (dankai)
I had my windshield replaced. We were able to reuse the trim, but the weather stripping has to be replaced. You have to tear it off to get to some screws underneath it. I got the replacement stripping from corvette rubber it was around $150, but that is a lot less than what the windshield place wanted for it!!! Hope this helps...

Did your insurance not cover the extra cost of the weatherstripping??
Re: REPLACING WINDSHIELD!ARE MORE PARTS REQUIRED? (dankai)
I just had liability so I had to pay for all of it out of my pocket. It is necessary to replace it so I would think that the insurance company should pay for it also.
Re: REPLACING WINDSHIELD!ARE MORE PARTS REQUIRED? (dankai)
Your insurance should pay for any part that goen into the windshield replacement.
If the person on the phone says no, trust me there is a person higher up that will say yes.
Here is where it gets sticky. You want the GM part. The insurance will not always go along with that. It will come down to your policy if they can or cannot do that. After market will work though, the GM stuff is better though.

I'm shocked that it cost ya'll so much for your windshield replacements..I had mine replaced last year for a total of $189.00. It doesnt leak and they reused everything they could. They did tell me that they were not going to guarantee it because i didnt buy one of the seals..(i was on a super extreme budget at the time). all the seals in my car need to be replaced though :smash: ...Just cant see why just a simple replacement costs some people so friggin much! :nonod: That just sucks.
