Default IAC valve

Hi guys , my 1992 base has started intermittently idling high and yesterday started cutting out real bad . I managed to limp home and by then she seemed running OK. I know the IAC is probably the culprit and the first place to start but I'm curious, is there 2 IAC valves Google pics show 2 different valves on the TB.One is screw in on the bottom and 1 that bolts in on top.I;m going to replace both of them but I'm curious which one is the actual IAC. If anyone has any other tips about what it could be I would appreciate it . Thanks guys

Believe 1992 and 1993 still is screw in, there is only one IAC valve the other style is for 94+

I don't know that I'd just assume it is the IAC itself that's causing your issues. It does impact idle but it is just doing what it is told to do. I don't know what tests should be done on a '92 but I'd try those before I threw a part at it.

When/If you order, I'd suggest you pull your existing IAC first. The pintle shape will be important and the best way to verify that is to look at the one installed currently.

Great thanks for your reply . I figured out the top one that screws in has two fingers that just control the idle itself and the screw in one on the bottom is the actual IAC it's not that pricey so I'm going to replace it and hope for the best .I've heard cleaning them is not worth the trouble ,,, thanks again

The 92 uses a screw-in IAC..

The IAC will not cause the drivability problems you describe. You have a 1992. The high idle, cutting-out, and 'limp home' are all symptoms of known issues with the 92's problematic ECM.
