It is a pretty simple process. You are basically just cutting out a rectangle in the front of the air lid. I chose to cut only the front flat surface off using the 1st bend as a guide. I used a Dremel to cut it off and smooth down the cut edge and then spray painted it black.
If I were you, I'd just get a precut one. You'll know it'll be done right and look good. Besides, what's an extra $10 compared to the rest of the stuff we pay for our cars? :smash:
Iv'e been thinking about cutting mine as well (or getting a used one from a salvage yard and cutting it). Does anyone find it an issue in the rain at all? Not that I drive the car in the rain much, but it's unavoidable in some instances. The last thing I want is for the motor to injest any water - I've had enough problems with this thing as it is!
I have two cut lids. One is the common variety where the baffles are cut out and the hood has been removed leaving it wide open and able to draw some bumper-cavity air (which is semi-cold air) with engine compartment air. The other one just has the baffles cut out and the hood was left intact, so that it can only draw engine compartment air.
It may run counter to all logic but my car seems to run better with the second one, which has the hood intact on it and just the baffles cut out.
