Default Antenna Motor

On my `84, I believe the antenna motor pooped out on me. The funny thing is that I cannot push it down into the body, but it will come up very easily. Has a gear broken/jammed, etc?

Any ideas how to fix it, or the cheapest replacement?

I had the same problem. Chances are you broke the nylon rod. G.M. sells repair consisting of new nylon rod attached to finial end of antenna. If you hear the motor running than the rod is most likely the problem. 20 dollar fix if you do it yourself. Good luck!!

kick butt, because I can hear the motor running!

But I'm guessing that's a special order part.... Arg. I hate going through the dealership- mostly because I want things NOW NOW NOW (and not next week sometime when they get around to shipping it....)

Thanks again, though!

I posted a link to a place with the exact same unit new for sale for ~$52 if I recall correctly. It's made by a Japanese company, Harada, and used in various makes and models of cars.

Try and do a search under my recent topics, for an antenna topic and you should find it.

I just replaced mine last night. The whole unit. Its pretty easy. I'd get a new one if I were you either factory replacement or the "Harada" as Central Coaster was saying. That way it saves you the hassle of having to take it apart and mess around with it. At least you'll be happy a newer one is in and chances are it wont go bad for a long time.

Taking apart the motor casing and replacing the plastic cable is pretty simple though and it is cheaper.
