And Helium....... :D
Any particular reason why helium instead of argon? I've always used argon when TIG welding anything...

I also use Argon on thin aluminum & steel, but heavy aluminum cross sections & plate dissipate heat rather quickly - often to the point that you can't get the correct heat at the initial "start" or maintain enough heat for proper weld penetration. Helium simply allows you to weld thick materials that dissipate heat quickly much more efficiently than Argon.

Thanks for the responses. The reason I was asking is I found a d44 on ebay that had a bit of damage that I thought would be fixable, and the unit might offer itself at a cheap price, due to the damage. Anyways I contacted the guy and he turned out to be a knucklehead. Telling me it already was at a discount, dut to the damage, $1300 beans.

Anyways I think I found my D44, so I will let you all know when I get it, hopefully this week or coming weekend.

What happened to your stock rear? Did it break or are you just upgrading?
I'm still running the 36 and was just wondering what to expect with the power I'm putting down now.

Hey guys,

I have not been around much lately to keep tabs on you fellas :D nor to update you on the engine transpant.

The reason for the search is to replace my d36 that will explaode most likely the first time I hammer on the new 406 that will hopefully shuttle me throught the traps at a very low 11 or high 10s. So to answer your question, its just an upgrade to the car to handle the added power.

Secondly, where I found the rear is gonna have to remain a mystery till I get my little grubby hands on it and I can truely call it mine. :D I can tell you it will remain the 3.07 gears.

Here is as good as place as any to give you all a brief update....

The car has been trailered to my parents dealership were its up on a lift waiting for various electrical devices to be reinstalled, such as the WB02, tranny temp guage, and many other crazy things I have going on in the car to complicate matters at the track  Anyways I am trying to get them all routed, etc before the engine transpant, which is scheduled for tomorrow. I can then get the tranny etc hooked back up and be ready for the final install of the manifold and SR. Then all that is left is firing it up and start to tune the monster.

I am way further behind than I would have liked to have been, but with work...my company nearly shut GM's new cadilac launch down (it was a screwup on their design of the cam caps, but very quickly became our problem to solve, since the adjustments needed to be made in our manufacuring process). 80+ hours a week instructing engineers and plant personnel gets old real quick...That has been going on for the last ~5-6 weeks..Not to mention the 2-3 feet of snow that seems to fall weekly. I was laying on the couch today watching some ultimate fighting and the sounds of tweaty birds outside, has me all excited that spring is just around the corner. But the fact that we are suppose to get inches of freezing rain today, leads me to believe those tweaty birds will most likely be frozen fast to the tree limbs as I head out to the dealership today to comense work on the car.

There you have where I am at...pretty much the same place as I was about 1.5 months ago. LOL

Also as a side note I had the unfortunate oportunity to share a conference room with a few of cadilacs top design engineers for quite some time over the last few weeks. As it turns out, from there mouths is the new cadilac 16 cylinder 1000 hp car is a big smoke and mirrors trick to hype up the cadilacs, since oldmobile was discontinued and they are trying to boost sales for caddies. The advertised car is a ploy to get people talking about caddies. The show car had basically two vette engines welded together and turbocharged to produce 1000hp. Nothing they will EVER attempt to sell to the public. That is from there engineers mouths so take it for what its worth.
