Has anyone painted the exaust manifold? Other than using a higher temp paint, is there anything else I should know?
Looks like all I need to do is unscrew the cover, buff off the manifold and start painting?
Thanks
I've never found any spray on paint that would last. The Eastwood company makes some stuff that will stay on. It's a dull silver when cured (after sustaining 400 deg for 20 min). I've used on several rebuilds. Is called something like stainless steel exhaust paint.
This is a good question, as I am wanting to do something with my manifolds as well. I had taken a look at Griot's Garage products because they had had a manifold dressing that was applied with a nylon brush - but when I called to order it, I was told that they no longer carry it. :(
Anyone know of another source for manifold dressing that is applied with a nylon brush? Thanks.
I tried to paint mine, used high temp paint and it burned off. Now they look like crap so its off they come and I am going to jet coat them. I gotten prices at about $150, and in my opinion thats not to much for a great look that will last forever. I have heard of the Eastwood paint, but I dont know anyone who has used it.
I'd leave the manifolds as is though you can buff off the surface rust. You can polish the heat shields which covers up a lot or have them chromed. Find a local Harley dealer or a custom m/c shop and find out who does their chrome or you can ship them to Street & Performance http://www.hotrodlane.cc. Use new stainless sheet metal screws when putting them back together. Polishing the air tubes helps also. I stripped the check valves & polished them, but they showed surface rust the first time they got wet, so I'm going to clear coat them.
Thanks so much for your responces  Just trying to cover all the bases before I hook everything up...it's easier now than later.
I don't want to put all the work in and have it look worse.
Right now the wife is wanting me just to slap it all back together ASAP!
Thanks again for the help...I'm a day closer to getting it done!
