1. Can someone tell me what this is? I've scoured the GM shop manual, but I can't find any mention of it. There's no pulley on the front, and it has coolant and what might be vacuum lines going into it.

2. Also, I don't know what this plugged pipe is for.

Lastly, there's a short coolant hose going from the front of the throttle body to the intake manifold. I can't find this in the manual or parts catalogs. Does anyone know where to find a replacement?

1 smog pump air diverter plumbing-no coolant.
2. air injection manifold where the smog pump injects air into the exhaust manifold

Thanks for the info. Both seem obvious in hindsight.

Another question: are there significant benefits/issues with disconnecting the air injection and EGR systems? I did that on my '75 Buick, but that of course isn't fuel injected. I'm happy to keep things stock, but if the power gains are big enough and tricking the computer easy enough, I'd consider warming up the planet with some extra emissions.

Nothing to speak of gained by deleting either of those systems.

caveat: if you are doing autocross or track days, the smog pump (btwn the alternator and the throttle body) will overheat bearings and melt/break. purchase the delete kit, and remove the smog pump. Keep it so that if you sell you can reinstall the smog pump and resell the delete kit.

if you are not doing hpde, i see no reason to delete those systems.
