Hello, just bought a 95, 6 speed car, 50k miles, super clean. On hard acceleration sometimes at about 4500 rpm or so it drops rpm for a split second and then comes back on. Also, I noticed sometimes hard to start, especially when it is hot. Should I get a code reader? If so, which one? Any ideas what is the root of the problems I am having. It runs awesome. Awesome car. Thanks a lot everyone
If it bucks in high gear on hard acceleration which is a sign of a bad opti. If there are no codes lots of the time the cap and rotor can be replaced. Try to keep your original opti as the optical sensors are more reliable than the now crap stuff. But before you do any opti work I would first take a shot at the ICM. Not too expensive and easy to replace. They go bad often and can have a wide number of symptoms intermittent as well.

How much fuel is in the tank? If it's low, fill the tank. Fuel slosh will cause this if the tank is low.
If the problem persists after filling the tank, put a fuel pressure gauge on the rail and monitor the pressure while cranking the engine over and while driving. Run the gauge to the windshield so you can see it while driving. You should maintain around 40psi with the ignition on, while cranking and under acceleration. If the pressure is low or fluctuating you may have a failing fuel pump.
The optispark can cause problems like you described but I would verify the fuel level and pressure first.
