Just installed 50 series Flowmasters
Dang. There is one hell of a resonance between 1500 and 2000 rpm's under load. I guess I'm approaching middle age as the sound is somewhat annoying, yet somehow pleasing :)
I also noticed a seat of the pants increase in torque
Nice, but I'm wondering if there's anything out there that'll flow as well, but sound a little quieter?
Thanks,
Jay

Re: Just installed 50 series Flowmasters (JayH)
Jay,
Did you install just the mufflers or the cat back system? If just the mufflers, what is the part number.
I have read on the forum where the 50s are supposed to be way better than the 40s in terms of resonance. Interesting that yours are causing problems. Do you still have a resonator and cats?
Do they have the "twin D" looking tips on each side? I am looking for a system and have narrowed my choices down to the Flowmaster 50s, Magnaflow, and Corsa (hard time spending the dough for them!).

He cut out the neck-down to 2 1/2 just before the muffler, widened the muffler inlet port to 2 3/4, and re-used the stock tips (which still contain a 2 1/2" restriction, but are stainless so they wouldn't open up.)
The rest of the exhaust is still completely stock.

If you want no resonance go with a Corsa system.
I used to live in Shohola and do some work out by Wilkes-Barre. Still have family in Pike county - God, I sure do miss the Poconos and Pennsyalvania sometimes...

Jay, I just put Flowmaster 50 series on my 91 L98, and I don't have any
resonance problems at all, at any speed/rpm. I'm not sure - maybe you've
hit on something here with the different engines? Be sure to double check your part numbers and let the guys know.

Hey Jay, just keep the revs over 2000. Should be easy. :D
