As far as I can tell, the primary function of the R-D racing cross bar is simply to tie the B pillars together at the seat-belt mounting points, providing a rigid connection between the two.
Is this it? How does that stop the shoe-box-with-lid-removed shaking that we experience when our tops are off?
Check the RD racing link. There's a new X brace which is essentially a stiffer version of the convertable X brace to eliminate the annoying vibrating when the top is off. Although at $500+ I'd rather go to a junk yard and get the convertable brace. Better off making your own !
The Cross-Brace is designed to mount 5-point saftey harnesses for competition use. While it may bolt to the two sides of the car, I don't thing it is really designed to provide extra body stiffness.
The Targa Truss which bolts to the windshield frame and the body using the targa top mounting points looks like it will do the most good to directly help cowl shake and body flex.
Re: Primary function of the cross bar? (c4cruiser)
I have the Camber Brace. the difference it makes is albost unbelievable. With the top on, thecowl shake is gone. with the top off it is still there, but it helps some. I can't imagine not having it...
