Default Thermostat Question

Probably a naive question, but is there an easy way to tell what degree thermostat my 93 LT-1 has?

Default Re: Thermostat Question (robparrish)

It came with 180 from the factory.

But if you suspect something different, keep a close eye on your temperature gauge, my coolant goes straight to 160, then when the stat is fully open at 163F, the temp drops back down for a few minutes until the oil gets over that temperature and raises the coolant temp.
So at whatever temp your stat is, it should hold steady or drop a little when it reaches that temperature and then proceed back up.

If your digital temp gage shows around 175 to 180 F while driving, you have a 160F thermostat.......as said before, 180F are stock. In this case your dig temp gage wil show between 190 and 200+F while normal driving on the highway.....LT engines run at least 10 to 15 degres above rated thermostat temperature
