Default 4+3 Overdrive issue. NEED HELP!!!!!!

I took my 85' vette to a reputable shop to have a new Centerforce dual friction clutch installed Thursday. Today the manager called me to ask me to come over and look at something he thought i should see.

There are 2 pins protruding out of the case of the overdrive unit. They stick out about an inch each, and appear to have been pushed through the case from the inside. This was all noticed because I had also asked them to repair a transmission fluid leak that I assumed was from the fluid line which threads into the overdrive unit right next to theses rods. The fluid line was not the problem, the fluid is leaking from around one of the rods which is shoved through the case.

Now for the kicker. The car has 65000 orig. miles and the overdrive works flawlessly. How can there be to internal parts sticking through the case and still have the unit work without a problem. It shifts into overdrive smoothly, no noise, no nothing..

Thanks to anyone who can help. I am going to try to attach some photos I took while the car was on the lift..

I have one apart on the bench as we speak and it has the very same rods you refer to, initially I thougt I had a problem also but they are normal. Not having looked at it very closely but on initial look they appear to ma ybe part of the manufacutring process. I know exactly what you refer to,dont worry, they appear to be normal..... frank
ps mine is an 85 also

Like Frank said you're fine.

You can barely see one of them in this picture, the other is hidden by the coolant tube.

yep, I have the same thing, they almost look like they are part of the manufacturing and casting process. Mine is in the trunk right now, tomorrow I need to set up the clutch pack clearance to complete a rebuild on the unit.

Ecklers for about $23 I think. It should come with a new rubber grommet too. You can actualy reuse the filter I am told if you clean it in some kerosine and blast it off with air.

Ecklers or Mid America both sell the filter kits for under $20. I just ordered one from Ecklers about 10 minutes ago. They have the cheaper shipping.

Thanks again for all the help guys
