New guy here...I'm not new to cars, just computers. I've just discovered
the forum and I really enjoy it; very imformative.
now for my question...my 4+3 has a "straight-cut gear" type whine when
the OD is engaged. I've had the car for a couple of years and it's always
done this. Is this normal, or is it ready to take off my right leg? Thanks

Re: Another newbie 4+3 ??? (Curveit)
I've started to notice this sound too. I get it at idle with the clutch disengaged. It might do it when driving too... but I can't hear it over the road noise.
It never did this until I put Mobil 1 in the gearbox. I didn't put any of the friction modifiers in there.. perhaps I should?
I run Mobil 1 Synthetic 75W090 gear oil in the 4-speed and Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF in the Overdrive.
What sort of noise are we talking about exactly? Is it...
1. Noisy in all gears.
2. Noisy in high gear
3. Noisy in neutral with engine running
4. Noisy in all reduction gears
5. Noisy in 2nd only
6. Noisy in 3rd only
7. Noisy in reverse only
It's in all gears...Louder when decelerating
I usually don't engage the OD untill 60-65 MPH.
Up there the road noise and the frequency pitch is too high to hear I guess.
