Spare me a moment while I express how extremely pleased I am with the new CCW wheels. Take a peek at the links below. These are 18x11.5 (rear) & 18x10 (front) with Michelin Pilot Sports all the way around - 275/35 (front) & 335/30 (rear).
The only thing left to do is a little bit of fabricating on the rear trailing arms and sway bar attachment points. 'CorvetteZ51Racer' is experementing with some redesigned trailing arms that, if I remember correctly, should allow for an extra 1/4" to 1/2" relief for the back side of the wheel. My local fabricator will be working with me during the next couple of weeks to see what we can do to modify the sway bar. That, plus a little heat gun trick with the inner wheel well to reshape the liner and the 11.5/335 setup in the rear should be good to go. I'm using a 1/4" spacer on the rears right now which is fine, but I'm not a big fan of spacers. Under hard compression the extreme outer edge of the tire just tips the outer lip of the rear wheel wells. Without the spacer on there they will clear fine. With the mods done and the spacers removed this should be about the biggest meat possible for a stock coupe. Rides like it's on rails too!
Re: What a difference a WHEEL makes :) (Light84vette)
The car was actually lowered by the previous owner. I think it's 1" all around, but I can't really say for certain since I was never able to judge from the difference.
Cost for the wheel/tire setup was actually pretty reasonable verses every other option I considered. John at CCW offers these wheels for about $450 each I believe, which rocks for a top quality 3-piece 18" racing wheel. The next nearest wheel style that I liked (from another company) was around $750 a wheel. CCW had a great deal going with the tires too. John sent them already mounted on the wheels and pre-balanced. The whole package ready to bolt & go was about $2800. Kind of a pricey upgrade, but as a result I've just fallen hopelessly in love with the car all over again!
Does the front "Track" road ruts with such big fronts?
So far I can't tell that they track any worse than the wheels they replaced. I was running 17x9.5's so these are only 1/2" wider. I can only think of a couple of places on I-20 between Shreveport & Monroe, LA (about 100 miles) where I'm vividly aware that they are tracking. Louisiana has the worst roads in the Union, so that's saying something. :D
So, you're shifting the spindle control arm mounting points, and the sway bar mounting points on the rear? The inner part of the wheel makes contact without the spacer?
