I have finally got around to ordering a new steering rack and I am thinking of using a Z51 to replace my standard part. Is this a good idea with out all of the rest of the Z51 options.
Do I need to put in any other kit from the Z51? And does the rack make the car twitchy under normal driving ?
I am being advised by my dealer to replace the pump at the same time is this necessary or will flushing all of the old fluid by ok ?

It won't hurt anything on your car, and I think you'll love the better steering response.

Nope, I believe the rack is the only thing that you need to change.

Nope, not at all. It may make the car tend to follow ruts in the road a little bit more, but that's something all Vettes do anyway.

Well, you should be ok doing just the rack, but changing the pump might no be a bad idea if it's old as well. Think of it as cheap insurance for your new rack. I know I would change them both.
Good idea to go with the Z51 rack. Check it on the bench before installing, I asked for a Z51 rack but didn't get it the first time. Should be about 2-1/2 turns lock to lock. If you ever have the steering wheel off you should change the turn signal canceling cam, the Z51 cam is different due to the reduction in steering wheel movement when turning. I replaced the cam when I replaced the VATS ignition cylinder since the canceling cam had to come out anyway.
