Re: Do TB Air Foils actually do anything???? (MrNuke)
Actually, they do work ~ but the amount of improvement is not enough to make much of a difference. They really aren't designed to add more air to the TB ~ Physics has taken care of that. The real effect of the airfoil is to reduce turbulence and facilitate smoother air flow.
I think they are way overpriced, and won't do much for the average Corvette ~ but at some point as you add mods, it has to help ~ ever so slightly. Let's look at it this way..... if after building your engine you run very consistent numbers, then add a TB airfoil and consistently decrease your ET by .05 seconds, then it is well worth it.
Short-Story-Long ~ I would go on record as saying if you don't have one ~ don't buy one. If you have one, leave it in. If you can buy one from someone else for say ............... $10 ~ Go for it!

Re: Do TB Air Foils actually do anything???? (Strick)
Umm the make of car has nothing to do with it actually.. A mustang doesn't have TPI now does it... Aside from that, how exactly is losing 15lbs going to make you go faster than a 5-7HP performance mod?
:leaving:
Re: Do TB Air Foils actually do anything???? (sumoboy)
Hey.I stuffed a couple of SOS pads into my intake and gained 25 RWHP...they completely removed all the unwanted turbulences ...........unf#(!n&believable........:lo lg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg:
Don't you think GM would have thought of that when they designed the TPI if it's 10 extra HP to stay on top of the muscle car war.
HEY!! They got this thing called the TORNADO that gives 13HP and better mileage!
Imagine a mini-tornado moving through your engine. The unit creates a swirling motion, allowing the air to move faster and more efficiently. :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :bs :bs
Re: Do TB Air Foils actually do anything???? (mackeyred96)
i'm sure they help some but their main goal is to reduce turbulance as the air is drawn into the tb...turbulent air robs horse power...however 10hp..i doubt it..like all aftermarket performance parts if you took and added all the "advertised hp" gains up everyone would have a 400 hp car... :steering:

WHATEVER!
:nopity
You sound like an owner and user of the airfoil. :lolg: :lolg:
Nice legs though...]
I certainly didn't imply that I did or didn't have one. It so happens that I do, because it came with the car, but that was not my point. My point was that you cannot assume it does no good because GM didn't put it there. GM didn't put big brakes or a supercharger on my car either...so it must not need it then. All that I ask is that you realistically consider the possiblilty that the car manufacturer could be wrong.
Jaclyn
Thanks for the compliment on the legs...BTW. :D
I would like to see a dyno chart. I have one on my Vette and it did not help as far as making the car faster in the 1/4 mile. Just make sure the threads have a thread lock on them. :)

[QUOTE] GM didn't put big brakes or a supercharger on my car either.
I understand your point but these are called options which of course will cost extra. :D
Glad you at least agree with my compliment.....needs a tan though.....just kidding.
You guys fly to Hawaii by chance?
Re: Do TB Air Foils actually do anything???? (My 95)
When i bought one for my car, i put the K&N at the same time, not to mention my old air filter was black with dirt. Did i notice a difference? the two items combined actually i noticed a difference. You'll feel a little difference highway driving i felt the car pull a bit more..in fourth gear, i could of been imagining things.
You have to remember catalogs post hp gains and notice "up to 10hp" or what ever...those numbers divide it by 2 if it says 10hp then its 5or 4hp then to the rear wheels its like 1.5 hp something like that.
Make a long story short, it does help but so very little gains that it hardly noticable on a dyno or on the track...thats why everyone is shooting this product down. I bought it and won't remove it or sell it unless i did some heavey duty work on the motor.
Re: Do TB Air Foils actually do anything???? (Dan Parker '96)
One of the Chevy mags did a chassis dyno test with popular bolt ons added to an LT1 Camaro one at a time. If I recall correctly the air foil showed a 1 or 2hp gain which doesn't really prove anything as it's well within the normal variance between dyno runs.
Re: Do TB Air Foils actually do anything???? (My 95)
Reading some of the replies there sounds like a lot of :bs flying around.
I admit to buying one when I first got my 87, there I said it. I have no earthly idea if it made a difference, but it was one of the first mods I did. In my mind the vette was going faster :auto: :lolg: :lolg:
I am not going to take it out, it looks pretty kewl in there when I remove the hose.
Re: Do TB Air Foils actually do anything???? (beachcat)
The C4 TPI system was designed for a 305 C.I. engine. So says the book "How to Modify Chevorlet TPI Engines" by Jason Scott. This is obvious by the fact that the engine choaks out at 4800rpm. And it's not the cam. With a new CompCam I still was choaked until I ported everything and added more FP.
My point is, that little device smoothing airflow in that small area of the TB when the engine only pulls 4800rpm anyway, well, the difference probably wouldn't blow out a match. If anyone really wants to spend $50 for more airflow, sent it to me with your plenum. I'll open the front and get you 5 times more than an airfoil will give you. For you guys that are sticklers for the facts, that was just an estimate.
Re: Do TB Air Foils actually do anything???? (My 95)
Had it, sent it back, ONLY because new 52 MM was set up for the new air flow design. Viewed it as "a mod is a mod" was just cool to know you added something to "make it faster" .........good/bad/indifferent.......If you want it buy it, as long as it doesn't damage the car, go for it.
Re: Do TB Air Foils actually do anything???? (kittmaster)
My car had one on when I bought it it is still on the car. I suspect the only real improvement is the added weight on the front end, should assist at high speed with a little extra downforce ;).
