I'm asking for my brother. He has a 1990 Corvette. He needs wheel bearings, but has found them to be extremely expensive. He told me the cheap ones have been quoted at $500 apiece. Is there a company out there that anyone knows about that has wheel bearing assemblies for a better price than that? Prices like that could seriously sideline a Corvette. My 68 has the old method, which is nice and inexpensive, so I'm hoping the C4's wheel bearings don't reflect the price of technology.
look for previous threads on bearings. i think theres a secret to using the firebird bearings or something. they are they same but cheaper... go figure. CHeck the archives.
Many prices out there.. but $500 !!! Forget it... this has been hashed over quite a bit lately... seems you get what you pay for... Since AC Delco farms out a lot of their stuff... it might do you some good to see if you can find out who makes the wheel bearings for AC Delco... How ? I don't know... However... I heard from an unreliable source that buying a OEM wheel bearing is the safest way to go... they are gauranteed not to separate when they fail... As improbable as it may seem... the thought of a wheel coming off just boggles my mind... besides safety... I can only imagine what it would do the the car...

Do not do it!!! I was quoted $539.00 if I ordered it through the dealer last year. Got the one from Eckler's for ~$240. It was an AC/Delco part with the same warranty.
Scorp's not wrong. I bought a set at Pep Boys. Make sure they have a black bearing seal. They're SKF's from Chicago Rawhide. But if you look on the casting it should have a CF symbol for Central Foundry, a GM division. The seal may also have a very small NDH for New Departure Hyatt.
SKF and NDH are two different companies. If you find "NDH" on the black seal, (tiny letters) then they are OE bearings made by New Departure Hyatt. A former GM division.
Check out http://www.tld-corvette.com/catalog.htm. Price's beats the dealers pricing by far. Wheel bearing parts are original GM parts or after market. Your choice.
